Are you a policeman or a lifeguard?

A policeman is constantly watching for something to correct.

“Don’t do that.” “Put that back.” “Stop running.” “Be careful.”

A lifeguard is watching too—but differently.

A lifeguard is fully present. They’re observing. They notice who is a strong swimmer and who might need a little more support. They know when to step back, and they’re ready to jump in the second they’re needed.

That’s our role in the classroom.

To be present and to create an environment that supports independent learning.

We’re there to observe, guide, model, and offer support when children need us—not to spend their play constantly correcting them.

When the environment gives children the tools they need, we can step back and allow them to explore, problem-solve, take appropriate risks, and play independently.

Be present. Offer guidance. Provide support. But don’t confuse teaching with constantly correcting. #ConnectedClassroom #ChildLedLearning
