A calm classroom isn’t always a quiet classroom.
Sometimes a calm classroom is actually pretty loud.
It sounds like children laughing together. Blocks crashing to the floor. A group deeply involved in dramatic play. Children negotiating whose turn it is. Someone singing while they paint. A whole lot of excited conversation.
Calm doesn’t mean silent.
It means children are playing INTENTIONALLY. They know what to expect. They’re engaged in meaningful play. They have space to move, create, explore, and connect. And when things get hard, they have adults who can help them regulate.
We don’t need classrooms full of children quietly complying.
We want classrooms full of children who feel safe enough to be children.
